Success Stories

Below are a few success stories of Rotarians around the world who have made a difference:

Aid To Mexico

In January 2006, Rotarian, Bob Kuck from Ontario, Canada contacted New Life International with a request to take water purifiers to Mexico in an effort to bring humanitarian aid to the indigenous Tarahumara Indians in the High Sierra Madre Mountains. The Chihuahua Campestre Club, the Capbellford Club in Ontario and the Jeffersonville, Indiana club sponsored four purifiers, and this is part of a report received:

“We imported four purifiers to Mexico last February [2006], and they are now serving indigenous communities where waterborne parasites and other communicable diseases have been a big problem.”—Bob Kuck, October 2006

Now eleven Rotary Clubs in Central and Southern Indiana (District 6580) are partnering with the Chihuahua Campestre Club to again sponsor more purifiers for the Tarahumara Indians. The vision of this partnership is to combine their funds and apply for a matching grant through the Rotary Foundation to sponsor as many purifiers as possible. The Rotarians with the Chihuahua Campestre Club that are trained on the installation, operation and maintenance of the New Life purifier can bring safe water and hope where the need is overwhelming.

Aid To Zambia

The Franklin, Indiana Club sponsored a purifier in 2006 for a hospital in Mwandi, Zambia Africa. In June of 2006, a water purification team from New Life took the purifier to the hospital and trained the staff on how to install and operate the purifier. Mwandi is a 45-minute drive from Livingstone, Zambia on the Zambezi River. The hospital there serves a large community and draws water directly from the river. Most of the time the hospital doesn’t have the funds to buy liquid chlorine to disinfect their water, so they boil their water in an effort to disinfect it but that doesn’t remove all the bacteria - not to mention the problem of deforesting in the region. With the installation of the New Life water purifier - sponsored by the Franklin IN Rotary Club - the hospital not only has safe water but is now supplying safe water for the community surrounding the hospital.

Aid To Ghana

Walter Hughes, Rocky Mount Rotary Club Dist. 7570, writes:
Tamale Woman Pouring Contaminated Water

“I am very excited about the water purifiers that we took over to Ghana. I was moved by our demonstration at the dam in Tamale. The New Life water purifier was able to clean water that was dirtier than any water most Americans will ever see.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks working with the Tamale Rotary Club and the Jimmy Carter Center team to fine tune the cost estimates for our Rotary Matching Grant. We have support from clubs around southwestern Virginia, New York, and California. We also have supporters in Georgia! We plan to clean water in small towns and cities, dig wells, implement a small town mechanized water system, fix up existing wells and bore holes, fix a dam or spillway, and educate children how to avoid getting the Guinea Worm.”
